Young-Gap Kim (1957-May 29, 2005) is a Korean photographer. He became popular after he died. He was born in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam-do, and graduated from Hanyang Technical High School in Seoul. He entered in Jeju island in 1985, he was fascinated with Jeju’s peaceful horizontal composition since then, he has left numerous photographic works based on natural landscapes such as fields, clouds, mountains, sea, trees, and silver grass in Jeju Island.

He suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and continued his work in Jeju Island for 6 years. When he was alive, he often said, “I gave my soul and passion”. He died on 29 May 2005 while decorating and operating his own exhibition hall, Kim Young-gap Gallery Dumoak, in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The ashes were scattered under the persimmon tree in the gallery’s front yard, leaving no testament left.
